An abstract map and conceptual model of Center City, Philadelphia analyzes the spatial relationships of the city's heterotopias. Heterotopias, as described by Michel Foucault, are places that are considered "other". They are places that are in contradiction, intense, and  even transforming. These places are often overlooked and are subjective but are essential as the normal cannot exist without the abnormal. The circle represents a quarter mile radius around the corner of 19th and cherry street in center city, with lines and gradients representing various heterotopic relationships. The model describes the relationship between the normal and the heterotopia and how they are always in balance. For this reason, a mobile was created with a model of the city below to show the actual geographical locations of these places.
