Human instinct is to find and make our own shelter. Umbrella is this manifestation. Modular units of "umbrella" luminaires provide the structure for the bus shelter as well as a luminous glow that provides a feeling of refuge in the city. Each "umbrella" is motion-censored so that when it is occupied the light fades from a cool blue to a warm white light, indicating the bus that passengers are waiting. Umbrella creates a soothing experience for the stressed transit user while increasing transit efficiency.
